Our instructors will introduce you to surfing with safety tips, ocean awareness, equipment and surf etiquette as well as progressive methodology which guarantees you catching your first waves in no time. As you become more confident in the water, our instructors will lead you into more advanced techniques so you can begin to surf on your own – the ULTIMATE experience.
Our groups feature a ratio of 1 instructor to 6 students. However, if the waves get bigger or the crowds increase, our instructor to student ratio will increase as well. Of course, we want to avoid big waves and the crowd, so we have a van available and access to several locations ensuring the best conditions for your skill level.
Whangamata is the ideal place to learn to surf because of its sand bottom beaches and user-friendly waves with a beautiful backdrop of Whenuakura and Hauturu Islands. Our instructors are here to ensure your journey into surfing is safe, fun and unforgettable.

Itinerary:
DAY 1: Arrive around lunch time and be welcomed by your host with freshly made natural juice.
After that we will get ready for our first surf session with your coach. This first session will set the pace for the remaining sessions with specific focus on what you would like to work on. Your coach will be available for techniques and equipment discussions so you can get the most out of your training. The afternoon will be reserved for a nice relaxing Yoga session at a local studio.
DAY 2: Start your day with a specially prepared breakfast for your group from 8am. If you have any dietary requirements, please let your host know. The surf session will follow, but it may slightly change daily according to tide and swell conditions. Your coach will update you if any changes happen. The afternoon will be reserved for any other activities, for an extra surf session or just for relaxing. Ending your day with a surf specific yoga session.
DAY 3: Your freshly made breakfast will be served as always from 8am. Differently from the other days, the last of your retreat will be reserved for an extra surf lesson or any other activity you would like to have before moving onto your next adventure. If the surf is good you can talk to your host and extend your stay! :)
During your surf sessions you will learn proper popup technique, the most efficient and effective way to paddle, what to look for so you can catch your own waves, as well as safety tips and surfer’s etiquette to keep yourself and others safe.
Your yoga session will focus on several yoga flows designed to stretch and strengthen your surf muscles with poses that you can use well after your adventure with us. These poses will help you stay in surf shape in between time in the water. You will also learn proper breathing and alignment techniques, variations of poses as well as modifications. Each class ends with a short meditation.
